Eni Indonesia begins search for DP3 floater and Eni Australia needs an FPU for a duration of up to 20 years

  • Murphy Cuu Long Bac Oil Co. Ltd’s jackup tender closed on 01 July. The operator had extended the deadline several times. We understand that this was due to changes in the tender format. The operator requires a rig for the development drilling program in the Lac Da Vang field, located in Block 15-1/05 in the Cuu Long basin offshore Vietnam. The campaign consists of up of four trilateral wells to be drilled from a fixed platform. Each well has a duration of 90 to 100 days. Water depth in the field is 157ft (48m). Commencement window is between mid-August and October 2025. The tender was issued in April.
  • Eni Indonesia B.V. has issued a Pre-Qualification (PQ) exercise for a DP3 deepwater floater for a period of up to five years. The commencement window is in 4Q 2025. The unit must be able to operate in water depths between 4,927-6,560ft (1,500-2,000m). The rig must have dual activity capability and must have a MPD system. Bidders need to have a minimum local content of 18%. The PQ closed on 05 July.
  • Eni Australia issued a Market Investigation for a Floating Production Unit (FPU) to be deployed for a duration of up to 20 years. The operator could use a shipshape or circular floater, semisub or even a jackup. The commencement window is between 2026 and 2028. The exact location has not been advised. The area contains hydrocarbons of gas and condensate, which about 4.5% of CO2 and traces of H2S. Water depth in the area is between 295.3 and 328ft (90-100m). The expected penetration for a jackup is 82ft (25m). The jackup should have deployable leg length in excess of 459ft (140m). Eni requires budgetary indications for a charter period of 15 years and 20 years. Eni would also like the option to purchase the unit at different stages of the contract. Evaluation of the responses are ongoing.
  • PTTEP Thailand has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for three separate requirements. It is understood that all the requirements have a duration of five years each. The first (Rig#6) is for either a jackup or Tender-Assist Rig (TAR) starting no later than 01 June 2025. The second (Rig#9) is also for either a jackup or TAR starting no later than 15 July 2025 and the third (Rig#1) is for a jackup, starting no later than 01 October 2025. The rigs will be deployed in the Gulf of Thailand. Tenders for each of these requirements, which are second contracts against the rig reference, are expected in due course.
  • PTTEP Myanmar has deferred the commencement of its jackup drilling program. The new commencement is said to be between October 2025 and August 2026. A market survey was issued in 3Q 2023. The work scope was described as four firm wells plus six options. The drilling program is made up of both exploration and appraisal wells in Block M5/M6 (Yadana Field) and one well in Block M3. Water depths in the area of operations range between 65.6ft and 229.7ft (20-70m).
  • Jadestone Australia, according to industry sources, has begun discussions with Valaris for the use of the Valaris 247, which arrived in Darwin on 01 July. It appears to be the only jackup in Australia that could be available for the commencement window between 4Q 2024 and 2Q 2025. Jadestone plans to re-enter and sidetrack the Skua-11 subsea production well in permit AC/L8. The work scope has an expected duration of about 72 days. It lies in Montara Field in the Timor Sea. The well is about 706km (376miles) east of Darwin. The anticipated well target depth (TD) is 16,077ft (4,900m). Water depth at the location is about 262ft (80m).
